We hope you enjoy your visit to our home on the internet

We got started in Akitas almost twenty years ago when we were looking for a new puppy.  At the time, we knew little about the Akita breed, as it wasn’t as popular as it is now.  What we did know, was that after seeing our first Akita in a book, we just had to have one!  Who knew at the time where it would lead us!  Of course, people who were active in the dog world warned us to stay away from the Akita breed.  We were told stories of their aggressive nature and the dangers of owning one, but it didn’t deter us.  We were as headstrong as the breed is known to be.

In 1991 Jake came to us from Imperial Akitas in Massachusetts.  From the day he came home, life changed for good.  We were so enthralled not only with the looks of the Akita, but also with it’s regal and majestic personality.  We were hooked, and so began life with an Akita.  Jake was a masterful teacher and proceeded to lead us on a ten year quest of learning everything we could about the nature of these wonderful beings.  When Jake was young we explored the whole show circuit with him, but because of his long coat, and more importantly, his dislike for the show ring, he decided that he would rather be a best friend than a winning champion.

In 1997, we couldn’t wait any longer and started the search for another dog that might possibly have a similar personality to Jake.  We found him!  We went back to Imperial Akitas with the hopes of finding our show dog, but as we were weighing all of the physical qualities of the puppies, Colten stole our hearts and chose us.  Yet, another long coat!

We brought Colten home in January of 1998.  He and Jake were instantly the best of friends and became true soul mates.  As Colten matured, we often talked about how great it would be to be able to produce other dogs like these for every Akita lover.  Living with them brings us nothing but pleasure.  Colten had such a sense of humor and was filled with the courage the breed is known for.

Since that time, we talked endlessly about having dogs to show and breed.  We believe that our years of experience with the Akita breed and with training dogs professionally puts us in a unique position to help people develop not only dogs with wonderful physical qualities, but with matching temperaments as well.

In November of 2000, Excalibur's Ultimate Jazz arrived.  She has wonderful structure, a personality that won’t quit and a NORMAL coat!  She introduced us to the show ring and gave us the opportunity to take our show experiences to the next level.  She is incredibly resilient and never complains.  Unfortunately, Jazz did not work out as a show dog.

In the Spring  of 2003, we were blessed with Vegas.  Vegas is from exceptional lines and is striking not only structurally, but in personality as well.  She leaves her own special mark on anyone she meets.  In addition, she has, to date, given us three beautiful litters of puppies.  She has been a wonderful foundation bitch for us.

With each step into the show ring, every win, every loss, every puppy produced, every puppy placed, every potential family met and with every dog lost, we learn more about who we are as Akita owners and breeders and what we want our future plans to be for this wonderful breed.

W
e established Ultimate Akitas so that other breeders and Akita fanciers take this journey with us.  We are committed to future bleedings of Champion Akitas and wonderful family pets for everyone who is as in love with the Akita breed as we are.  And we want you to be a part of it.

There are many people we could thank for helping us along the way, but to Jake and Colten and all of our 4 legged friends:  We owe you everything for guiding us each step of the way and being the masterful teachers you are.

Thanks again for taking the time to get to know a bit about us.  Please email us and tell us what you think. And make sure to check out the rest of the site and see the dogs!
